Dr. Seuss Day!

Today is Dr. Seuss's Birthday. Why not make a special day celebrating all the stories we love so much!
You can start the day out by making green eggs and ham. This image is from {Homemaking Fun} and she suggests using cubed ham instead. And if you don't start the day out that way, you could always make green deviled eggs and ham later.
Here's a fun activity: make oobleck! {Ehow} tells us how.
Kids love playing with this stuff!
The gal at Homemaking Fun made these cupcakes to go along with "The Sneetches". She read them this story at night before they went to bed and they got a cupcake.
I saw the rest of these fun ideas on {Kara's Party Ideas}.
Cupcakes to go along with "Horton Hears a Who" - it's cotton candy and the hortons are magnets she found somewhere.
And here are some "Thing 1 and Thing 2" cupcakes for "The Cat in the Hat" - cotton candy again.
And she made these "Cat in the Hat" cupcakes using white chocolate and gummie candies.
Here are some green cupcakes for "Green Eggs and Ham". Have a great day celebrating Dr. Seuss!

Amazing Play Kitchen

I just saw the most amazing DIY transformation on {Giggleberry Creations}. They took this crappy, old entertainment center which they got for $30 because no one wants them and they're everywhere right now...and turned it into...
This:
If you're not stunned, I am in shock. I guess I'm in shock either way, though. :) Isn't that amazing!?

Here's what they did:
Took the doors off and sanded it down.
Painted it white and grey.
Added a microwave box and cut a hole for the sink.
Stuck a little metal mixing bowl in the hole - so they probably used it to cut the hole. And put on a little faucet (the top of a broken soap dispenser would work nicely). They also put doors on for the fridge area.
Painted the fridge doors and the microwave white. Painted the sink cabinet door grey. Attached all the doors.
Painted the oven black and the back of the entertainment center. Fixed the oven door so it's a window. Added a window over the sink and a spoon rack and a stove top and some curtains and some baskets in the fridge...man they went all out!!
It's amazing! All from a peice of junk entertainment center. Go to the link at the top for more detailed information. If this isn't inspiration, I don't know what is.

Sharing a Room

I'm kinda partial to sharing a room. I did it with at least one other sister my whole life. Then I shared rooms with room mates until I got married. And now I share one with my husband. So I really like these examples of stylish shared rooms. I really like how this room has separate areas for the members who sleep in it. I also like the use of similar bedding just of different colors so they feel like their space is individual to them.
This is kind of a cool idea - to have a sitting area in the middle of the room.
I really love this room! I love the colors and the splashes of that awesome wallpaper. Anymore than what they used here would have been too much of that bold print. I love the headboards and how there's a pop of pink on the beds. Very cute and chic. This room could grow up with your girls.
In college I found that my room seemed twice as big when we would arrange our beds in the corners like this room.
The only problem was that we didn't have an awesome corner headboard like these from Potterybarn. It seems like it would be pretty easy to build.
And once again, I like the use of similar bedding in different colors. It brings the room together, but also gives the members individuality.
Ah, bunk beds. I'm pretty sure every kid loves them.
I like this bunk bed with a trundle bed underneath - great for guests as the picture suggests. This is also a great bright colored room!!
When my mom was growing up, they had a lot of girls, so they put in a room full of built in bunk beds. We still sleep on them! It's such a party and it doesn't take up too much room, either.
A Life's Design had this picture on their blog. Doesn't it look fun!? I like that each bunk has it's own lamp.
This image is from Skona and Hem. I like how these built-ins have such a wide ledge next to the mattress. This is a really cute boys room.
{Urban Grace Interiors} had this image on their blog. I love the curtains! And the mirrors at the head of each bed.
I LOVE the colors in this room! These bunk beds are clearly built to stay here, but not tucked away in the wall. That looks great too.
This room just reminds me of a ship. Maybe it's the colors or the floor or the ladders, but something reminds me of sailors. I think it's really cute and really well done.
And here are some built-ins that aren't bunk beds. Don't these look cute with the curtains and the beams on the ceiling. I love the beams!!
I like how this room has a lot of storage. The shelves look cute, don't they, and it looks like there are drawers built-in under the beds.
The built-ins in this room are a great use of space in a room with a slanted ceiling. I also love those cubbies in between the beds.
These images from Potterybarn made me decide that I want three girls and I want them to share a room and I want it to look just like this.
Especially this one, with the different colored bedding that all still matches and the names above the beds. And it would have to be upstairs in a gabled room just like the one below - because I love the way that looks.
I like these boys rooms, too.
Especially this one - very masculine bedding, but still with the different colors, and I really like how a different sport is above each bed - just giving them that individuality again.
And in case you ever need to have a boy and a girl share the same room, here is a little inspiration for how to make it work. This room is so cute! And it flows really well, but you can totally tell which is the boy bed and which is the girl bed. And I really like that.

Car Caddy

{Homemade By Jill} just made this amazing creation! Oh isn't it cute!!?
There is a tutorial, but she just used three peices of fabric like this and then put a car decal on the front with a velcro closure.
So cute~

Homemade Gummie Yummies

{Skip to my Lou} used these supplies: to make these gummie candies.
Ingredients:
1 -3 oz box of flavored gelatin
2 - 1/4 oz packages of unflavored gelatin
1/3 cup water
candy molds

Directions:
Place 1/3 cup water in a small sauce pan. Sprinkle the Jello and unflavored gelatin over the water. Let sit 5 - 10 minutes. (If you like chewier gummi candy add in another packet of unflavored gelatin.)
Place sauce pan over medium heat and stir until gelatin is dissolved, about 2-5 minutes. When mixture is liquid and all gelatin has dissolved, remove from heat. Let cool a minute and then pour into a container that is easy to pour from. Fill molds. Allow to cool completely, about 20 minutes. They may be placed in a refrigerator for about 10 minutes if the kids are eager.
Once cool, the backs can be lightly dusted with corn starch, if desired. Peel the gummi candy out of the molds. Don't be shy, you won't hurt them when peeling them from the molds. No need to oil the molds! Enjoy!

Sounds fun, right? I'm sure the kids love it!

Nursery Shelf

As I finished decorating my son's nursery last year, I kept coming back to these pictures for nic nac ideas and placement inspiration. I really like what all of these shelves have on them.
This one from Project Nursery is probably my favorite. I love those suit cases, as I've already mentioned, and the little blocks are adorable.
Potterybarn has some winners too, as usual.
I like the use of different frames and both chrome and ceramic nic nacs.
I like the frames and the different containers. I also like the teddy bears.
I incorporated blocks and stuffed animals into my shelf, as well as the use of different materials. In my case I juxtaposed ceramic and wood together.
I got the airplanes at a craft store for a dollar each. The ceramic canister also came from a craft store for 2 dollars. I already had the teddy bear, and the blocks I bought in primary colors - like they usually come for 2 dollars for the set. I just painted over those bright colors so they would match my son's room. I sell these blocks in my Etsy store (on the left) and I can paint them any color you want!
And it all looks great together!
Happy Decorating!!
