My Nursery Update

We've made some changes to our nursery. Starting with the wall above Jason's crib. You may recall it looking like this:
A little lonely, if you ask me. So we added a shelf which I found at my favorite store, TJ Maxx. I had the airplanes, and the bear already so they were ready to find a home on top of it. I found some blocks and painted them to match the room. I love them! And then saw this little canister for $2. I love the way it turned out. And my airplanes found a home as well. I'm putting some of the things I've made on {my etsy shop}, if you're interested.
So, remember this crib. Our wonderful brother gave it to us, and we love it! It used to be a light honey color, but I always imagined my nursery with deep brown furniture. So, while I was 8-9 months prego, I spent my days out in the back yard sanding that finish off, so we could refinish it in this espresso color. It was hard work, but it was a labor of love and we LOVE the way it turned out!!
We finished it the day before our son was born. And since the crib HAD to be finished because it was all he had to sleep in, this changing table/dresser was put on the back burner. My husband decided he was going to build us one when we couldn't find anything in our budget that would fit in our tiny nursery. (notice how close the rocker/recliner, dresser, and crib are to each other.) He has spent almost all of his free time on it in the past 9 months (which he obviously does not have a lot of since he's in college full time AND working full time - what a guy!) and has finally finished it!!
We stained it to match the crib and I LOVE the way it turned out, don't you?? Oh, he did such a good job. I think he could sell these things, if he had time to work on them.
He did such a good job and it was really fun because we were able to design it to be exactly how we wanted. I love the trim. I love the cubbies for those cute baskets. I love the shelf.
I love the trim on the bottom of the hutch. I love the drawers.
And the feet are cute, too. My husband thinks they make the whole piece.
Way to go, babe. It looks awesome! I couldn't have asked for anything more. It's fun to be almost finished with this room. I just have to hang up a few pictures and we're done! Yeay!

Super Hero Party

What little boy, or girl,...or grown man for that matter, would not love this on their birthday!!?

fabric applique t-shirt:
felt superhero cuffs:
twill cape and reversible felt mask:
one happy superhero:
I love the look on his face, don't you??
Cute colors, too. All the {food} was coordinated as well. It looked so awesome! And great idea with the rice crispy treat!
I saw this on {Party Perfect} where she has links to {Shim and Son's} superhero party.

More Lovely Nurseries

I just think this room looks so sophisticated. I love the wall stripes. I love the rug. I love the simplicity of the two frames above the crib. And the colors green, blue, and yellow are very nice together.

Something about a monochromatic blue room for a little boy just makes me happy.
I love espresso wood furniture. It looks so good, and I especially love dark wood floors. All that paired with crisp white in this photo make it look amazing. And those little clothes hangning behind the crib are just too cute.

This is SUCH a cute nursery!! I've always loved pink and green together. I imagine I might do that color scheme if I had a girl. I just think this room is so well done. Well, maybe just a little neon for me, but still great inspiration from Design Dazzle.
When I think pink and green, I think more like this:
A bit more muted. I love the window treatments in this picture, and that little vase of flowers on the shelf.
Here is another pink and green that suits me better.
I love how they did the name in this room. Great idea! And those window treatments are so cute! I also really like the idea of giving a crib a bedside tablel. Funny. But so cute.
This one my be my favorite of all.
So much to love. Starting with that curl on the wall. It always looks great to have plain white bedding next to a colored wall. I love that scalloped edge on the bedding. I also love the rug. Pink and brown is a great color combo.

Planters

I'm not a big fan of planters. For some reason they look a little dowdy to me, and the "new age" ones look too space age. But, when I saw these, from Potterybarn, I decided I might be able to convert. I love the look of these planters!! And I love those boxwoods planted in them as well. Very cute! However, they are a bit expensive, so maybe I'll try to look for some similar ones. Even brown ones, then I could just paint them...

Basket Liner

This {Tutorial} from Make It and Love It is a good one. I love the way lined baskets look, but they are usually a little bit more expensive than the unlined ones... Well, now you can make your own liners. Great idea.

Wallflowers

I love this idea I saw on Design Dazzle. Doesn't this wall look so cute!? Those flowers are either fabric or tissue paper attached to the wall. I think it looks so cute!
I also like how they pulled some down onto the dresser, to sort of tie them all in. Oh, it's so cute!
This room is a very cute nursery, but it could easily follow this girl all the way through her teenage years. I just love it.

Tie

The Purl Bee just posted a tutorial for a {Father's Day Tie} and I love the idea. You could make it look however you want! What a great project.

They Also have a tutorial for a {Little Boys Tie}. Would a tie that matched their Dad's tie make them want to wear it?? How cute.

Thanks again, Purl Bee!

Photo Memory Game

So I had an idea to make a {Fabric Memory Game} a while ago, but this is another cute idea from {Jamie's Digital Designs}. She made a photo memory game with chipboard squares and paper. Just glue and then modge podge. Pretty easy. Oh, and this tin to put it in is so cute, too.

Car Trash Bag

Make it and Love it has a {Tutorial} for this little car trash bag... I espcially like the idea of hanging it from the head rest because when they're down low in the car, they tend to get stepped on and knocked over pretty easily. It's a good idea.

Sea Shell Lamp

The Lettered Cottage had this great idea.
Say goodby to ugly lamp bases. All you need are some pretty shells and some glue and you can transform an ugly lamp into a beachy beauty....ok, and maybe a nice, clean, lamp shade.
What a great idea.

Sidewalk Chalk Paint

I saw this idea on Odeedoh. What a great idea. Apparently it washes off really easily from sidewalks, dishes, and clothes, which is perfect for little kiddies. {Here} is the recipe.

Sweet Shop Party

What a fun party idea this is! I LOVE the bright colors!!
I especially love these jars filled with candies and sweets. Such a fun decoration, and of course a good treat. :)

I guess the kids got to decorate their own cupcakes.

Aren't those lanterns a perfect decoration for a party like this??

Very cute idea. I saw it on Design Dazzle.

American Inspiration

Since we're nearing my favorite holiday, I've been looking for some inspiration... I'm a little obsessed with our Country. I think it's great. I love the colors. I love celebrating it! It's such a fun holiday. I once went into a basement that was decorated in American paraphernalia and I absolutely LOVED it! Someday, I might do the same thing. Why only bring these things out on the 4th?? Anyway, here are some things I want to do.

It might be fun to make a {bunting} with patriotic colors like this one from {Daisy's and Dots}.

{A Touch of Sunshine} has these cute pieces for sale on Etsy. I really like them. I might want them in some brighter colors, though. They're a little too antiqued for me.

This top hat is really cute, though.

And for some reason, I LOVE stars during the 4th of July. I love these!!

I really like the look of this sign and especially those stars, of course, from {Suzies Signs}. Although, again, it may be a little too antique for my taste.

VERY cute, though!

{Country Living} has a simple tutorial for how to make these Carnation Balls. I think they look so pretty and summery!! You just soak floral foam and cut carnations an inch below the calyx, then stuff them into the ball in a concentric pattern. Easy, and SO CUTE!

It seems like it would be pretty easy to make them with fake flowers too, so they'd last.

I always make a fruit pizza in the image of an American flag on the 4th of July, but {Diana's Desserts} had this really pretty idea.

Don't they look good?? I think it would be fun to make those cupcakes with red velvet cake mix for the 4th. I love the berries, though!

I saw this lovely scene on {Banquet Event}

Radio Flyers are as American as they get. I love that they're using it as a serving tray of sorts.

That pillow is so cute! I love using fabrics that have the American colors, but don't have all the fireworks and stars all over them.

It just makes me want to Celebrate the 4th, as it says.
